IWF assessed more AI-generated child-abuse images in six months than in all of 2025
The Internet Watch Foundation said it assessed 6,310 AI-generated images meeting the legal definition of child sexual abuse in the first half of 2026, compared with 4,512 throughout 2025. The Guardian separately interviewed its policy staff, who called for binding safeguards; the IWF wants EU rules that let platforms identify previously unseen material as well as known images. ·
